Pigtails

My crazy little girl...

She's always holding something...

I guess it's a smile...

I can tell their age by their hair - it's growing in so nicely and I just love it. I say that now but give me a few years and I have no idea how difficult it will be to do hair times three! It can already be a pain but it's too cute to resist...

Lovely Blog Award

Apparantly my blog is lovely :) Thanks to Donna at Zookeeping 101 - she has a great blog if you haven't checked it out - she includes recipe tips and organizing tips all from a mom who has NINE children including TWO sets of triplets. She is who my DH fears we will become if we try for more kids :) I think Donna's surviving so why not? Kidding of course!

But her second set of triplets is also all girls who are about the same age as mine so we have a lot in common - wish we lived closer!

On to the award...

And the rules:

1) Accept the award, post it on your blog together with the name of the person who has granted the award, and his or her blog link.

2) Pass the award to 15 other blogs that you’ve newly discovered. Remember to contact the bloggers to let them know they have been chosen for this award. I certainly haven't discovered this many new blogs so I will nominate a few I choose for fun and because I think their blogs are lovely :) Sorry I didn't have 15!

Pinwheels

The kids love running around the pool - it's one of their favorite activities. Yes, they are watched very closely - I can jump in and save them at a moment's notice but it still makes me nervous. Why do they love the dangerous stuff?

So tonight they were out there running and this time they had pinwheels from the Dollar Store. They loved those too. Cracks me up what kids love.

One for everyone - Rachel's is a bit different it has "shapes" which means "hearts"

These things are cool!

Running...

Caleb was interested but no one would let him borrow one :(

They just love the pool.

Can't leave the big kids out. Don't they look thrilled? They're just disappointed that its been raining and they haven't been able to go in the pool for the rain and the cold.

And the rest of my photos are blurs of them running around the pool - just proof that they never sit still!! I won't put you through it but I've tried taking pictures of the 3 of them together looking at me - terrible so far but I'll keep trying!

Way Back When-esday - Grandma and Grandpa

Since I'm safely back in Florida - back with the kiddos and back with my parents I thought I'd go way back in my photos to some old ones with my parents and the kids through the years.

Enjoy :)

I can't even remember when they were this little! November 2006

They were much more fidgety by this point! It wasn't long before photos became impossible :) Beginning of 2007 - can't remember the month!

Thanksgiving 2007 - the girls had just turned 1.

Last summer - it's always the hair that seems to change the most! June 2008

And those seem to be the last photos I have of Grandma and Grandpa with all 5 kiddos. I guess I will need to work on getting a few while I'm here!

Play along at Twinfatuation.

More From Estes Park

Tonight is our last night and finally I have internet access! Everyone is supposed to have hi-speed up here but yet no one really seems to.

Updates from the last few days:

Here is my clinic group - we had a great time working on each other's stories!

On Saturday evening we went on a hayride and ate hotdogs over a campfire - fun! Look at these huge horses!!

Sunday morning we took a tour of Rocky Mountain National Park - starting at the bottom it was about 60 and up to the top where we were in snow!! Only here in CO :) We went from about 7500 to somewhere around 11,000 feet above sea level - wow!

Elevation 9,400 feet - cool but nice sweater weather:

Somewhere around 11,000 feet up (Sorry, I don't remember but it was high enough to be above the tree line and still covered in snow!)

Sunday afternoon we took a walk around the lake with an old high school friend of Kirk's and his wife - they brought along their 3 boys making me miss my 5 all the more :( But we did have a nice afternoon with them anyway! While we walked in the park we came across a herd of female elk - these things are everywhere.

Monday we spent the day in downtown Estes Park - it was beautiful weather and such a beautiful area.

My internet connection was horrible so I'm just finishing this on Tuesday now that I'm back in Florida (safely thank the Lord - Kirk too, back in VA). We had a really good time away in CO - love that state and I can't wait to go back someday - next time with the kids though - I'm sure they'd love it. Now I have about 1000 landscape and mountain photos of CO - I could create a ton of postcards :) I also have more photos of Elk then I'll ever need but they are so cool. Saw 3 bucs outside our cabin this morning on our way out. Of course, I took photos but I won't subject you to them.

Glad to be back with all my babies - I missed them but they had a great time with Grandma and Grandpa and G&G did a great job taking care of them :)

"Be still and know Him"

It's the quiet moments here that really stick with me.

It's like an alternate universe?

That sign says: "Kirk's Mountain Adventures"

woah! It's like a parellel universe or something! I should go talk to myself!

Frozen Lake

This is shot from the still frozen Bear Lake in the Rocky Mountain National Park. The montain is ongs Peak, the tallest in CO. This is the same spot they took the picture from for the back of the CO quarter

On the YMCA campus

This is what all the buildings on campus look like. "Rustic" isn't a theme out here, it's a reality

There's just something about those mountains

More mountain views

View from our Lodge

Here's the mountains we see right outside the lodge

"It's fun to stay at the... Y.. M...C.. A!"

corny isn't it?

Elk!

These things are constantly roaming around all over the place. They are HUGE!

The Conference Hall

This pic is for Kaitlyn who wanted to see the what the conference hall looked like so she can imagine her Mommy sitting there.

Mountains that touch the clouds

This piture is for Caleb who wanted to see the mountains I told him were so tall they touch the clouds

Hey Folks,

Kirk here, struggling with the spotty network at the Y, I'm going to try posting pictures one at a time for you to see.

Conference Day 1 & 2 - Ups and Downs

Writing is full of ups and downs. One moment you feel like you've written the best thing ever and the next you're wondering why you even bother! And so it is with this weekend but overall in a very good way. You have to be told what's wrong so you have an idea how to make it better.

The intensive clinic has been fabolous and I have learned a ton and my writing will be 1,000 times better because of it.

In meetings and critiques I have gotten excellent reviews - and now the hard part - re-writing, making it better and getting my butt in gear to submit. Aagh, the work part. But I will do it. As soon as I get around to it :)

Kidding...

Now for the good part - the view!! Oh my word, it is sooo gorgeous. God outdid Himself here in Colorado - every view is breathtaking.

I haven't gotten to see much yet because of the conference but Kirk has been around taking great pictures.

pictures that we will post as soon as the internet connection at the Y can allow it. and that's not tonight. sorry.

Way Back When-esday - Estes Park

On Sunday Kirk and I celebrated 13 years. The next day we took a flight to Denver, Colorado. We arrived and discovered we were too young to rent a car. Fun times! Now you know where all our wedding cash went to - cab fare! Yikes. We were driven to Estes Park and our waiting cabin. We stayed for 10 days and had a wonderful time.

Now, 13 years later we are back in Estes Park (this time we are old enough to rent a car - sigh) for a conference. 13 years ago we had NO idea what was in store for us. I can only pray the next 13 years will be as blessed as the last :)

Play along at Twinfatuation - hey, it's only 10 PM here!! You still have 2 hours if you're here with me - otherwise it's tomorrow in VA - oh yes, I'm exhausted from a whole day of traveling.

First Swim

The babies went swimming for the first time this summer so of course I had to take pictures :) Such a different experience from last year. They are less crazy and much more aware of the water and they are really enjoying playing in the pool. At least they are enjoying the stairs :)

I think the girls are getting tired of having their photo taken! They say "cheese" as fast as they can and get back to what they were doing. Notice Rachel - I point the camera in her direction and she holds up her hands and gives me a half smile. Is she surrendering? Enduring her hard life as the object of my photos?

I'm sure this is just the first installment of summer photos that include the pool but I had to document their first swim anyway :) Julianna even went underwater a few times and tried "swimming" - I bet they'll be experts by the time we leave FL.

Soon to come - before and after photos of my parent's pool - an amazing transformation - now we are here in a real oasis! Love it.

We're Here, We Made It, Happy Mother's Day, Happy Anniversary

Yikes! Today's a busy day!!

First off Happy Mother's day to all you current moms, old moms, new moms, soon-to-moms and someday-to-be moms and of course, a very special Happy Mother's Day to my own mom who is an awesome mom and I am so proud to be her daughter! And I am thrilled to be the mom of 5 beautiful kids who did an amazing job yesterday during our 15 hour drive!!

That's right 15 hours and 15 minutes! We cut almost 2 hours off our trip by cutting out the breakfast stop. We changed everyone before we left, fed them in the car and skipped a stop - it was great and meant we got here a lot sooner which made everyone happy! Lots of snacks and 12 hours of TV later we arrived safely!

Rachel slept - 3 times, 20 minutes each
Julianna slept - once, 35 minutes
Alyssa slept - once, falling asleep 10 minutes before we arrived at 10:30!!

Rachel required 80% of our attention
Julianna required 15% of our attention
Alyssa required 5% of our attention

Maybe there is a correlation between the two?? Weird one though, huh?

Last, but not least today is my 13th wedding anniversary! I have been married to the most wonderful man for the past 13 years. Since I was 19, believe it or not!!

I am thrilled to be married to Kirk and I still love him very much. He has always been there for me and supports me 100% in every crazy endeavor I undertake whether it's having 5 kids that includes triplets, couponing or writing novels and attending writer's conferences!!

I certainly pray we have many, many more years to come. Happy Anniversary babe!

My View For 900 Miles

Lovely isn't it?

You wish you were going too don't you?

Tomorrow we will again travel 900 miles to Grandma and Grandpa's house. 17 hours confined with 5 kids. We are trying a different arrangment in the van - putting the girls all across the middle and giving the big kids the whole back row. Means they have to climb over their sister's seats to get in but they seem more then okay with it! Also means I'll have total access to the girls rather then having to half climb into the back. But it also means I'll be closer to all the screaming - great.

Today I mentioned our trip to the girls after I dropped the big kids off at their last day of school (sniff, sniff) - I was telling the girls how we would see Grandma and Grandpa tomorrow. I told them we would give them a hug when we saw them. Julianna said, "sounds good mommy" and the rest of the day she's been talking about giving Grandma and Grandpa a big hug. Sooo cute :)

So, Lord willing, we will arrive safely at Grandma and Grandpa's house and have a nice stay until Kirk and I leave for Colorado.

Lots of work to do.

Happy Mother's Day a little early!

I'm Not Even Close To Ready!

I should be packing. I really should. Kirk pulled out the suitcases, they're in the hallway. I have the clothes to put in them yet I'm not moving.

In 4 days we are heading to Florida. A week from tomorrow we are heading to Colorado. The conference.

I got accepted into the intensive fiction clinic - a total of 6 people get in. Now, we're all critiquing each other's stuff. I know, helpful isn't it? This is what you're doing wrong, now fix it! Really, that is helpful I'm just worried my copy will have a TON of red ink on it :( Just lots to do before I go - a lot of it mental.

As for the kids -

Kaitlyn finishes 3rd grade in 3 days - oh my word, could that be true?

Caleb will FINALLY finish with preschool and be MORE then ready for Kindergarten in the fall - he's already reading for goodness sake!

And the girls are learning they can climb in and out of their cribs - fun times. Fortunately like my bigger kids when they were little they all love their beds and don't climb out when they're not supposed to but we are inching closer and closer to toddler beds.

Julianna likes to sit on the potty but never goes and the other two don't care. I'm in no hurry - diapering is a lot easier for me then pottying even if it is more expensive - enough on that for now :)

Okay, that's the update - no pictures right now - can you believe it? Still have to pack up 5 kids plus myself, put away the winter clothes for the 3rd time (do you suppose it will ever be spring??) and do all the laundry so I can bring ALL the summer clothes and put away all the winter clothes.

Fun times.

Why We Eat At Home

I LOVE going out to eat. I really, really do. I don't have to cook, I don't have to clean up - someone else serves me - it's great. We haven't been doing it much lately mostly do to budget restaints - at home I can feed us for less then $10 - while eating out can run us up to $60 or more for one meal! Yikes!

So, tonight we had a gift card and we had to go to BJ's so we decided to go out to eat before we shopped. What a disaster!

We had a twenty minute wait - not a disaster - not a big deal. Of course, we're asking to seat 7 people during "rush hour" so I knew it would be a wait.

After a bit over 20 minutes we are paged to our table. Great, we are all starving! They bring us to our table and there are 5 chairs. Hmmm, who gets to stand? We ask about the 3 high chairs we requested. What? You need 3? Um, yes, we have 3 toddlers. They tell us they'll look for them. I ask if in the meantime we could have chairs!!

They do manage to find us one highchair, I found the other - they never once remembered the third.

We ordered our drinks after waiting a good ten minutes or so for a waiter. I ordered a coke, I got a water. The girls got their chocolate milk finally - thank God, that helped with the whining. We did get some great bread which also helped.

We placed our food order after another long wait. The kids got their food - again after a long wait. That was fine - Julianna actually liked the raviolis :) But our food hadn't shown up. The manager comes out to tell me that my pork is still frozen, it will be a while longer and did I want anything else? I changed my order to raviolis since we'd already been sitting there around an hour. I also re-ordered my soda.

Somehow this really didn't expedite anything. The manager came out again. They had run out of lasagna and did Kirk want anything else on his trio meal. He ended up with 2 chicken parmigans.

We request the kids desserts to be brought out while we're eating. We were hoping some ice cream would keep them calm while we ate. No ice cream. We now order it through the waitress - both the manager and the waitress offer us 5 kids desserts even though we were only "eligible" for three.

In between our waits the waitress wants to know if the kids sitting at the table are all ours. We assure her that they are and that yes, the three girls are triplets. No, we didn't plan for them. No, they don't run in our family. Yes, there may be a special part of heaven reserved for me but I really doubt it.

Kirk and I finish our meals. The waitress shows up with 5 ice creams. Yes, the ice creams we had hoped the kids would eat while we ate. We ask for the check figuring it would take just as long to pay as it had to eat.

They brought us the check - the manager then comes and says he'll make a correction and take a meal off. But the bill comes back more then the first time. We are so confused and tired and just wanting to leave - after all we still had to shop at BJ's! So, finally after 2 hours of waiting and sitting and controlling 3 two-year olds who did surprisingly well and 2 big kids who played DS and drew on the table cloth (maybe you know where we are by now?), the manager brings us a bill for $32.

So, the bill wasn't bad - $40 for 5 meals (the triplets still split since none of them eat much) plus some ice cream. They were quite happy to inform us that we still had money left on our gift card and to please come back and see them again soon.

Kirk and I both agreed that that won't be happening! I understand waitressing is a tough job and they were quite busy but for that moment I wished the waitress could sit in my shoes as I tried to keep three toddlers happy. If there had been that chance I can bet you she would've moved quite a bit faster to be sure we were all fed.

So, tomorrow, I'm staying in.

We're Finalists!

I ended up submitting a similar picture to the one I mentioned 2 posts ago - we just got a lot of great shots of the girls on the tire swing. At this point how else do you get three toddlers in the same picture??!!
